I’ve been getting hit these past few months with lots of spammers trying to register and become users on my boards. So I’ve decided to change user registration for now. If you would like to become a registered user so you can discuss your genealogy on my site, please send me an email with your name, email address, and tell me a bit about where you’re from, who you’re researching.

In an effort to cut down on all the spammers trying to sign up for accounts, I’ve installed a Captcha image puzzle. This should help some as only humans can do the puzzles.
I’m also in the process of housecleaning the members list, so if you had an genealogy researchers account and for some reason can no longer access it, let me know. If you’re a spammer, well, pass…

Approved members will be given permission to add blog posts, available only on the HOME page. To access this feature, please log in and use the “site admin” link on the lower right side of the screen. On the left side will appear a grey box with the command “Posts”. Click on “add new” to create a post.
Media files such as audio, video, photos can also be uploaded and used in these blog posts.

Hello cousins, friends, fellow researchers
Well, I’ve been hard at work testing new software for the Estacaille researchers social network to replace the soon defunct Ning site. I’ve started a new home http://research.estacaille.org
A few minutes ago the new software (WordPress/BuddyPress) should have sent you an automated email with new account invites & passwords. The log-in is on the right side.
This software isn’t quite as user friendly as the Ning site, but that’s ok. HTML can be used in the group posts/forums, however the group posts/forumf (at this moment) don’t include an editor. Instead you can use your email HTML editor (Outlook/Outlook Express) to create your post, then just copy-paste it to the group orum post or even use the blog editor (see next paragraph).
There is also a blog built into the site (visit site admin link on the right) – approved members will be given security permission to create their own blog posts. This is a separate section from the groups, new posts are displayed on the home page. Media files can be uploaded into these blog posts, but they won’t display under the groups. I’ll try and make a separate tab for “Blogs” and set categories for surnames.
Photos – The top grey bar has a drop down list under “My Account”. In this list are links to your members account (please update and upload an avatar graphic) is a link to your photo gallery.
Videos/Media – at this time, there is no video library. I may change this in the future if there any interested members. For now you can post the embed code from YouTube.com etc into a post.
File attachments are allowed in the group forums.
