I’ve been trying to find some sign of my Judas ancestors in the Mecan township area in 1880. I’ve found them in 1870, 1895 and 1900. Searched the 1880 transcribed records on http://www.familysearch.org without any luck (even tried variant spellings Judis, Jud*) anywhere in Wisconsin.
Today I got a chance to go to the public library and have a quick look at the original images for 1880 Mecan Wisconsin. Some of the writing is very faint, but I didn’t have any luck finding them.
Has anyone come across them?
In 1870 Mecan census John Judas & family were dwelling #69 – family #74, with Daniel Schmudlach’s family farm being dwelling #90 – family #92.
In 1900 Mecan census John was listed with son Emil (possibly different farm lot) dwelling # 207 – family #213, and I have Emil Schmudlach’s (Daniel’s son?) family farm at dwelling #203 – family #219.
While I realize that these farms may be completely different lots in 1870 and 1900, I’m going on the assumption that father’s and son’s farmed close together throughout the 30 years.
Guess my next step should involve checking for land records, see what I can find.
